Georgetown ISD Announces the Hiring of McCoy Principal and Director of Digital Learning

The Georgetown Independent School District named the following new hires during a special board meeting on Monday, July 25:

  • Amy Heil, Director of Digital Learning

  • Dr. Emily Fraser, Principal, McCoy Elementary School

Amy Heil enters this new role with 20 years of public education experience in GISD. Heil has served as a teacher, elementary librarian, secondary librarian, and most recently as a digital learning coach. During her time as a librarian, Heil opened the Mitchell Elementary library in 2008 and the Wagner Middle School library in 2017. 

Heil holds a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences from University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University. Amy has been married to husband Jason for 25 years, and together they have two daughters: East View graduate Madison and rising East View senior Allyson. 

In her role as digital learning coach, Heil worked with campus leaders to design professional learning opportunities for teachers and provided guidance and strategies to integrate technology into classrooms. In her new role, Heil will be responsible for leading the district's digital learning coaches and the work of campus librarians. She will develop, maintain, and implement technology applications curriculum and digital citizenship curriculum. 

Dr. Emily Fraser enters the role of McCoy Elementary School principal with 13 years of experience in education, having served as an elementary teacher, special education resource and inclusion teacher, ARD facilitator, and most recently as assistant principal at Carver Elementary and Forbes Middle School. In her role as assistant principal, Fraser created innovative campus professional learning for staff, orchestrated strategic work for her campuses, and planned campus-wide events to support staff and school culture. 

Fraser holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, a Master’s in Education from Schreiner University and a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies from Schreiner University. Emily and husband Travis have two children in GISD: eighth grader Johnny and second grader Jaxon.

In her new role, Fraser will be responsible for leading and supporting McCoy Elementary, and ensuring that actions and behaviors support the mission of GISD and advance the campus toward the GISD vision.
