GHS Georgettes and East View Sparklers Represent at TDEA Convention
Every year, All-State dancers from all over Texas meet at the Texas Dance Educators’ Association (TDEA) Convention for a week of celebrating the field of dance. In January, dance captains Abby Tull from Georgetown High School (GHS) and Tristan Arellano from East View High School (EVHS) brought a little bit of Georgetown to Houston for the 2025 convention.
This wasn’t Arellano and Tull’s first experience working together, as their two teams – the EVHS Sparklers and GHS Georgettes – often collaborate for performances and “sister dances” at football game halftimes.
“With all this rivalry between our schools, it’s nice to get opportunities like this where we can connect,” Arellano said. “As captains, it shows our teams that you can be friends with people on the other side.”
Together, Arellano and Tull attended professional workshops, technique classes, exhibits and master classes, and networked with other dancers from the Central Texas area. On the last day, all of the dancers came together to put on a choreographed performance.
“We got to learn things and be in a room with so many different people from around the state,” Arellano said. “We were strangers working together, and what we created was a beautiful performance in the end.”
