On Tuesday, May 16, the GISD Education Foundation took their annual spring trip across GISD to surprise teachers and staff with grants.

Every year, teachers in GISD brainstorm engaging and creative projects for their students to present to the GISD Education Foundation for funding. Spring grants may be funded up to $5,000 and are the collaborative effort of more than one teacher or staff member.

This year, the Foundation awarded 19 grants across 14 different campuses that totaled up to a historic number of $63,429. To date, this is the most money the Foundation has awarded during a prize patrol.

Among the winning grants are “Virtual Reality to See the World” at Frost ES, which will allow students to “visit” different worlds and environments through a VR headset as they read about them in class, and “Be-leaf it or Not, We’re Wetting More Plants” at Wolf Ranch ES, which will fund plant towers to show students the real life impact of bees and monarch butterflies. “Dyslexia Sensory Experience” at McCoy will create a multisensory experience to help students apply crital thinking skills in communication.
