Lead Grow Serve Award Given to Two Lady Eagles for Courageous Acts
On Monday, Georgetown High School (GHS) seniors Cassady Lee and Aiden Gadison were awarded with the first GISD Lead Grow Serve Award of 2025. When their basketball teammate Olive Connerty was in an ATV accident during a team bonding weekend, Lee and Gadison made no hesitation to assist her.
“Cassady and Aiden didn’t even think about what to do, they just jumped in and helped me until the ambulance came,” Connerty said.
The accident had severely injured Connerty’s arm, and the bleeding needed immediate attention. Lee made a tourniquet out of her shirt to stop the bleeding, while Gadison kept Connerty calm and attentive. Amid the chaos, the girls made sure to call 911 and Connerty’s mom to keep them informed.
“When the ambulance arrived, Cassady ran to let them through the gate and guide them to where I was,” Connerty said. “Aiden comforted me and talked me through every step until the ambulance reached me.”
Unfortunately, Connerty later learned from doctors that her left arm would be amputated as a result of the accident. But if it weren’t for the actions of her teammates, she would’ve lost a lot more.
Connerty made her first return to the basketball court on December 11, as a crowd of supportive and emotional teammates, coaches and parents cheered her on.
“If those girls hadn’t stepped in the way they did that day, I would’ve died,” Connerty said. “Instead, I am in recovery surrounded by the best support system I could have.”
