Six GISD Students Named National Merit Semifinalists
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has announced Semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Among the 16,000 national semifinalists are six students from Georgetown High School (GHS): Seniors Nathan Aaker, Lindsey Bottoms, Jacob Kruse, Michael Shehan, Elias Stevenson and Lily Vaughn.
Over 1.3 million juniors across the nation entered the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program in the fall of 2023 by taking the Preliminary SAT(PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The highest scoring entrants have earned a spot as a semifinalist, making up less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide.
Aaker, Bottoms, Kruse, Shehan, Stevenson and Vaughn now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million.
Scholarship winners will be announced in the spring. You can learn more about the program here.
