New East View Ag Barn Officially Opens

Community members gathered at the new East View High School (EVHS) Ag Barn on November 6 to celebrate its official opening.

The ag barn is the first of five GISD facilities approved by voters in the 2021 bond to open. The barn, which includes a classroom, an outdoor exercise area for animals, and a show ring for students to practice for competitions, provides a home for up to 80 animals including pigs, goats and sheep.

A new ag barn is currently under construction at Georgetown High School (GHS) and will open in the summer of 2024, providing a state-of-the-art facility for high school students at both campuses. Until its completion, students from all campuses will share the new facility at EVHS.

“Facilities like the new ag barn provide opportunities for any student interested in raising an animal for competition to do so, removing any barriers that would possibly prevent that,” said Bretton Schulz, Director of Career and Technical Education at the district.
