Six GISD Schools Awarded for Campus Counseling Programs

Six campuses in Georgetown ISD were recently recognized with the CREST (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas) award from the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) for their outstanding counseling programs: Benold Middle School, East View High School, Forbes Middle School, Georgetown High School, Mitchell Elementary School and Tippit Middle School. 

TSCA began their CREST program in 2005 to recognize schools that demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives and achievement of students using the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs.  

“Over the past three years, GISD school counselors have intentionally focused on aligning their campus counseling programs to the Texas Model,” GISD School Counseling Coordinator Amy Rodriguez said. “In doing so, school counselors are better able to focus on meeting the needs of their students within the academic, post-secondary and personal social domains.”

In 2021, Tippit Middle School and Georgetown High School received the CREST award, making it the first time a GISD campus school counseling program had received this honor.

CREST looks at the counseling program in five categories:

• Introduction to the School and the Role of the Professional School Counselor

• Program Implementation Cycle

• Foundational Components

• Four Service Delivery Components

• Program Curriculum

“Our GISD school counselors want to advocate for their profession and their programs, as well as highlight the amazing work they do with students and families in GISD,” Rodriguez said. “We are incredibly proud of our CREST award recipients and our entire school counseling team who continue to lead, grow, and serve in our GISD schools and beyond.”
