Storytime in the Carver Garden: Elementary Students Take the Learning Outside
In 2021, Carver Elementary partnered with the University of Texas through the University’s School Gardens Program to bring life back to their campus garden following the pandemic.
Since Librarian Megan Copenhaver applied to the program, the garden has flourished as an outdoor classroom for students.
“I jumped at the opportunity because I figured it was the perfect way to connect students with the resources we have outside,” Copenhaver said. “We have thrived and loved every second of learning in the garden.”
The garden has also served as a gathering spot for the Carver community. Once a month, families get together for Coffee in the Garden to work in the garden and maintain an ideal space for students to plant in.
“I just love how our community has come together because of the garden,” Copenhaver said. “Families are invested, and we’re all working towards the same thing with this project: creating lifelong learners.”
