Finalsite Web Transition FAQs
What’s going on?
Our current website and content management system provider Blackboard was acquired by Finalsite. After many meetings and discussions the district has decided to stick with Finalsite due to their strong and intuitive content management system. We believe the transition will help modernize our websites and provide a much better user experience for web editors and web visitors alike.
When is the transition happening?
Currently the launch date for our new websites is scheduled for June of 2024. The transition itself will occur between April 1st - June, 2024.
What does this mean for me?
If you are a web editor and currently have content loaded to any of our websites we ask you save and back up your files by May 3rd.
Do I need to move/save my stuff (documents)?
Yes, most of you will need to move or save any information you wish to keep during the transition. Not all documents will transfer over by default. Please save your files by May 3rd.
We recommend you save your files locally to your computer or google drive.
Note: Page content itself will transfer over. Documents linked or within pages may not.
What about web edits made after April 1st?
Finalsite will clone our current site on April 1st to begin the transition process. Some edits made after that date may not automatically transfer to the new site.
Consider if you can load up critical information such as back to school events, enrollment updates, etc., before April 1st. Alternatively, you may also choose to update your site in June before the new school year. Much of this information will also be loaded to the district site.
If you have any questions regarding this please reach out at: communityrelations@georgetownisd.org
So what happens after April 1st?
You will not notice a change to our current website after April 1st. We will work with Finalsite to build our new website in the background and make the switch sometime in June.
What is a content management system (CMS)?
The content management system is the editor we use to update the website. This will completely change under Finalsite.
Does this mean I need training for the new platform?
If you are currently a website editor you may require training. We will provide you with more information at a later date.
What about teacher pages?
Teacher pages in particular will be affected by the transition. Teacher pages will transition to grade level pages. More information will be provided at a later date about what this will look like. Right now we recommend all teachers save any files they may have loaded to their pages by May 3rd.
What about athletics pages?
Athletic pages will remain relatively unchanged. However, we will provide more information regarding Athletic pages in the future.
