East View Teacher Wendy Sierra Receives Outstanding Teaching Award

On October 27, Congressman John Carter made a trip to East View High School to present US Government & Politics Teacher Wendy Sierra with the Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award.

Every year, Humanities Texas presents Outstanding Teaching awards to teachers that have demonstrated excellence in teaching the humanities. Over 600 teachers from across the state were nominated for this year's awards.

“Humanities are important. They help us learn about both the mistakes and successes of our past,” Congressman Carter said.

Following the presentation, students had the opportunity to connect with Congressman Carter while he signed pocket constitutions for them to keep.

Sierra was also presented with a $5,000 cash award and an additional $1,000 for East View to purchase humanities-based instructional materials.

“In her 25 years in education, Mrs. Sierra has made an indelible mark on her students, pushing them to think about deep questions and big ideas,” Kameko Jacobs, Education Program Officer for Humanities Texas, said.
