Ford Elementary Students Showcase Projects at Science Fair

Students at Ford Elementary got to showcase their projects during a STEM fair on January 17. Students were paired up with judges — community members, parents and staff volunteers — to explain their projects and the critical-thinking behind them.

One student in kindergarten tested whether plants grow better with sugar water, salt water or regular water. Another student in fifth grade explored whether a blacklight helped or hindered a scorpion’s hunting success — and yes, he tested this with two real scorpions.

Third grader Hayden Knabe researched 3D-printed orthopedic casts for his project.

“I had some challenges, but the process taught me a lot,” Knabe said. “I had to do a lot of research and have patience. My favorite part was everything I learned during the project.”
