Georgetown District Orchestra Takes the Stage at State Conference

In the summer of 2024, more than 30 music students from East View High School (EVHS) and Georgetown High School (GHS) came together to create the Georgetown ISD District Orchestra. In its first year, the Orchestra was invited to perform at the Texas Fine Arts Association (TFAA) Fall Conference.

“With student enrollment in Orchestra on the rise in GISD, creating yet another opportunity for student participation and enrichment is exciting,” GISD Director of Fine Arts Carol Watson said. “In Central Texas, many school districts do not offer Orchestra, so we should take great pride in our district's support of Orchestra and all Fine Arts.”

The group put on an outstanding performance at the TFAA conference that earned them a standing ovation from the crowd.

“The dedication, artistry and commitment displayed by your students from the Georgetown ISD District Orchestra were nothing short of inspiring,” TFAA President Manuel Gamez wrote in a letter to superintendent Dr. Devin Padavil. “It was clear to all present that the passion they have for their craft is a direct reflection of the high caliber of fine arts education they receive in your district.”

The GISD District Orchestra is the result of collaboration between EVHS Orchestra Director Maggie Ma and GHS Orchestra Director Barbara Bahrainwala.

“Creating the Georgetown District High School Orchestra is the product of teacher ingenuity and collaboration,” Watson said. “Ms. Bahrainwala and Ms. Ma exemplify our vision and mission, especially in their collaboration in creating an environment that inspires, empowers, and engages their students.”
