Georgetown ISD Announces Lone Finalist for Superintendent
During tonight's regularly-scheduled board meeting, the Georgetown ISD Board of Trustees announced Dr. Devin C. Padavil as the lone finalist for the superintendent position.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Padavil to Georgetown,” said Elizabeth McFarland, board president. “His extensive experience, exceptional leadership, and commitment to educational excellence make him the ideal candidate to lead GISD into the future. Under his guidance, Georgetown ISD is poised for continued growth, innovation, and success.”
Padavil comes to Georgetown from nearby Taylor ISD, another fast-growth school district, where he has served as superintendent since January 2021. Highlights from his tenure in Taylor include:
Leading the successful passage of the largest bond election in the district’s history;
Successfully navigating a Chapter 313 Agreement (with Samsung), benefitting the district’s maintenance and operations budget by $46 million;
Leading the expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs to help students meet workforce demands;
Establishing systems to track and ensure college, career and military readiness (CCMR) for high school students;
Developing systems to monitor academic progress and provide timely intervention to improve post-pandemic student performance;
Creating the district's first teacher advisory committee and student advisory council; and
Building routine communication structures to keep parents and community members informed.
“I am excited to join Georgetown ISD because of the sense of community and tradition that makes Georgetown a destination district,” said Padavil. “Georgetown’s culture of collaboration and student success is a result of the strong leadership team Dr. Brent has left as a legacy. I am honored to support and serve the staff of Georgetown ISD as we create exceptional learning experiences for students.”
Dr. Padavil holds a Bachelor of Science in Middle School Education from Illinois State University, a Master of Education in Administration from the University of Texas - Austin, and a Doctor of Education from The University of Texas - Austin. Throughout his career he has served as an English and social studies teacher and coach in several Texas schools; as assistant principal and principal in Frisco, Pflugerville, Austin, and Round Rock school districts; and as assistant superintendent, area superintendent, and superintendent in Fort Bend ISD, Leander ISD, and Taylor ISD, respectively.
Padavil is expected to begin his new role following the mandatory 21-day waiting period. The board will vote on hiring Padavil during a regularly scheduled meeting on August 7.
Padavil has two children: a daughter who will attend Texas A&M this fall as a physics major and son who is a high school sophomore.
