GISD Announces Amanda Johnson as Executive Director for Human Resources

The Georgetown Independent School District named Amanda Johnson as the new Executive Director for Human Resources at a monthly board meeting on Monday, November 13.

Johnson enters this new role with more than 20 years of experience in public schools in Texas, most recently serving as the director of human resources in Georgetown ISD. Johnson has also served as a teacher and coach, assistant principal, principal, and staffing director at Round Rock, Lake Travis, and Leander independent school districts before coming to Georgetown ISD in 2022.  Johnson will take over for Sue Harrison, who is retiring at the end of the semester.

“I’m excited for Amanda’s leadership in this new role,” shared Superintendent Devin Padavil. “Her ability to grow from her current position into this new role to lead and serve speaks to our mission as a school district. Her experience as a leader in multiple districts brings a strong perspective to Georgetown ISD.”

Johnson holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) and a Master’s in Educational Administration from Texas State University.  She also holds a teaching certificate in secondary basic business, is T-TESS certified, and holds a principal certificate for grades EC-12.

As director of human resources, Amanda works cooperatively with supervisors on employee performance matters, including evaluations and growth plans. She develops and conducts stakeholder training opportunities in areas of responsibility, including the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS), investigations, employee performance, legal requirements, and corrective documentation.

In her new role, Amanda will direct and manage Human Resources activities to ensure legally sound and effective personnel practices.  She will supervise the development and implementation of district personnel systems including wage and salary administration, benefits and leave administration, employee relations, and recruitment and staffing.  In addition, Amanda will interpret and recommend personnel policies for the district and be responsible for establishing, supporting, and modeling a culture aligned to the GISD Strategic Direction.

She will begin her new role in December.
