GISD Board Appoints Interim Superintendent
During a special called board meeting on Tuesday, April 11, the Georgetown ISD Board of Trustees unanimously named an interim superintendent to lead Georgetown ISD following Dr. Fred Brent’s retirement announcement last week.
Lindsay Harris was named interim superintendent for the district and will serve in this capacity starting May 1 when Dr. Brent assumes the title of Superintendent Emeritus to work alongside staff and the board in an advisory capacity during the transition. For the past four years, Ms. Harris has served as Chief Strategist for Leadership & Culture, where she supports campus principals and the Communications, Human Resources, and Student and Campus Services departments. As the interim superintendent, she will be responsible for leading the work of the district until the Board of Trustees names a new superintendent.
Lindsay earned both her masters degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University and bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University. She also holds a superintendent certificate for the state of Texas and served as a middle school campus principal for ten years, with principal experience in Georgetown ISD and Bryan ISD. Prior to her 15 years of campus leadership experience, she was a middle school Spanish teacher.
“Lindsay Harris has served alongside Dr. Brent and this leadership team for more than six years and served in a critical role, from providing leadership and coaching support to our campus principals and three significant departments in our district to recently leading the collective work to develop our new Strategic Direction,” said Elizabeth McFarland, GISD Board President. “It’s important as we move forward that we continue to advance the work of the district, remain true to our mission, vision and beliefs, and support the strategic direction of the district. We are confident that Lindsay is the right person to do that as we launch our search for a full-time superintendent.”
During the same meeting, the board announced intent to engage a firm to lead the search process for a new full-time superintendent. A decision on a search firm will be made in the near future.
