GISD Rocketry Students Take off to NASA

On Tuesday, students in the GISD rocketry program traveled to Houston to present a mathematical system to a NASA engineer. The purpose of this mathematical system? Students are preparing to build a rocket that will break the sound barrier.

Students in SystemsGo, an innovative high school rocketry/aerospace engineering curriculum, are in the beginning stages of their rocket development. Before actually building the rocket, students must prove to an engineer that their mathematical system and rocket design are viable enough to result in a successful launch.

“Presenting my rocket design at NASA was an incredible experience,” Ryan Bonura, senior rocketry student said. “It challenged me to think creatively and problem-solve in real time, and I’m excited to keep pushing forward as I build the rocket.”

Students are set to launch their rocket in Fredericksburg in early May.
