Seven GISD Campuses Awarded for Outstanding Counseling Programs
Seven campuses in Georgetown ISD have been recognized with the CREST (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas) award from the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) for their outstanding counseling programs: Benold Middle School, Carver Elementary School, Forbes Middle School, Georgetown High School, Purl Elementary School, Tippit Middle School and Wagner Middle School.
TSCA began their CREST program in 2005 to recognize schools that demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives and achievement of students using the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs.
“Our school counselors are consistently evaluating and adjusting implementation of their comprehensive programming to meet the needs of our students,” GISD Coordinator for Counseling Services Amy Rodriguez said. “They continue to prioritize student wellbeing in order to provide the best support for academic, social, and career development.”
In 2021, Tippit Middle School and Georgetown High School received the CREST award, making it the first time a GISD campus school counseling program had received this honor.
This year, for the first time, all four GISD middle school counseling programs were proudly recognized. Additionally, Tippit Middle School’s counseling program was recognized with the CREST Leadership Award, distinguishing their programming as an exemplar in the school counseling field.
CREST looks at the counseling program in five categories:
Introduction to the School and the Role of the Professional School Counselor
Program Implementation Cycle
Foundational Components
Four Service Delivery Components
Program Curriculum
"We are extremely proud of the work happening in all of our school counseling programs across GISD,” Rodriguez said. “It is an honor to showcase the work of our school counselors in order to strengthen the school counseling profession as a whole, which will in turn support the educational experience for all Texas students."
