GISD Campuses receive 2023 CREST Award for Counseling Programs

Six campuses in Georgetown ISD were recently recognized with the CREST (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas) award from the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) for their outstanding counseling programs: Benold Middle School, East View High School, Forbes Middle School, Mitchell Elementary School, Purl Elementary, and Tippit Middle School.

TSCA began their CREST program in 2005 to recognize schools that demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives and achievement of students using the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs.

“Our school counselors are consistently evaluating and adjusting implementation of their comprehensive programming to meet the needs of the students at their campus,” GISD  Coordinator for Counseling Services Amy Rodriguez said. “They are dedicated to the continuous improvement of their counseling programs to best support the academic, social, and career development of students.”

In 2021, Tippit Middle School and Georgetown High School received the CREST award, making it the first time a GISD campus school counseling program had received this honor.

Tippit Middle School has now achieved this recognition three years in a row.

CREST looks at the counseling program in five categories:

  • Introduction to the School and the Role of the Professional School Counselor

  • Program Implementation Cycle

  • Foundational Components

  • Four Service Delivery Components

  • Program Curriculum

"We continue to be extremely proud of our school counseling programming in all of our GISD schools,” Rodriguez said. “It is an honor to showcase the work of our school counselors in order to strengthen the school counseling profession as a whole, which will in turn support the educational experience for all Texas students."
