3. Practice makes Perfect: GISD Junior scores a 1600 on SAT
16-year-old Nathan Aaker is a Georgetown High School (GHS) Band Drum Major, Mu Alpha Theta President, debate team member, Advanced Academics student and, most recently, among the top 0.07% of SAT-takers in the country to earn a perfect score.
4. Bridges Students premiere first Podcast for Parents, Community
In 2022, the Bridges program received funds from the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation to jumpstart a dream project: a student-led podcast. After purchasing the equipment and supplies needed with funds from the GISD Education Foundation, the students planned and filmed their first podcast episode.
5. Six GISD Schools awarded for Campus Counseling Programs
Six campuses in Georgetown ISD were recognized with the CREST (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas) award from the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) for their outstanding counseling programs.
6. Students make Waves at SeaPerch Regionals, Two Teams advance to International Competition
On March 24th, GISD students from all over the district gathered for the 2023 Regional SeaPerch Competition. SeaPerch, a program funded by the GISD Education Foundation, is an underwater robotics program that teaches students basic engineering and science concepts as they work in teams to build underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) from a provided kit.
7. Page-Turning Technology: Wolf Ranch Elementary installs Book Vending Machine
Through a project funded by the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation, campuses in Georgetown ISD (GISD) are taking a unique and fun approach to promoting literacy and a love for reading among students. The installation of book vending machines in campus libraries is proving to be an innovative and popular tool that is effective in fostering a culture of literacy for students both in school and at home.
8. Conversations with a School Counselor: Lonnie Perez
As East View High School (EVHS) counselor Lonnie Perez reaches his 25th year in education and sixth year in Georgetown ISD (GISD), we sat down with him for a look at his journey as a school counselor. Through this journey, Perez’s goal has remained the same: to be a loud advocate for every student.
9. Elevating Student Achievement through Tiered Instruction and Intervention
In order to achieve student success, it is important to recognize that every student’s learning journey looks different. Educators in GISD work collaboratively to provide access to high-quality classroom instruction and ensure every student receives the appropriate support needed to learn at high levels.
Twenty-seven Georgetown ISD teachers expanded their knowledge this summer through an externship program, a collaboration between Rural Capital Area employers, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and GISD to provide middle and high school educators professional development opportunities to enrich the classroom-to-career connections made for students.
